Cattle Truck overturns on Highway 81

Union City Fire Department members administer first aid after a tractor-trailer hauling cattle overturned on Highway 81 south of the Highway 152 intersection on Monday, July 28
The driver and a passenger were transported to a hospital for treatment. The truck was hauling 104 cattle from Florida to Thomas, Oklahoma. Thirty cattle were killed in the accident. 
Minco Cheer Squads earn Awards

The Minco High School and Junior High cheer squads attended cheerleading camp at The University of Oklahoma on July 17-19. 
Both teams had a productive three days of learning new material & stunt techniques while also bringing home numerous awards. MHS cheer was awarded Game Time Top Team while MJH brought home the trophy for Champion Chant division. 
Message from Minco’s Water Superintendent

On Thursday July  31st we will be tying in the new 8” water line from 5th and Main to 10th and Gin Road. During this process there will be temporary outages in this area. Once the new line is tied in the construction crew can finish the dirt work and then lay sod to complete the project. I would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding during this project. The completion of this project is weather permitting. If we get a lot of rain it will set the completion date back, so keep this in mind.

Minco/Union City Post Offices deliver 3rd largest food donation

The Minco and Union City Post Offices completed a successful food drive campaign May 10th, delivering the third largest donation out of 136 surrounding associate offices based on pounds per delivery. 
“We appreciate the communities of Minco and Union City for donations and helping feed those who are in need,” said Denise Wheeler of this year’s food drive success.
The Minco and Union City Post Offices collected 1,628 pounds of food during the drive, all of which was donated to families in need.
The food drive is an annual program launched by the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, the state’s largest private hunger relief organization.

Jan’s Flowers & Gift Shoppe participated once again in the Teleflora “Make Someone Smile Week.” This program is the floral industry’s leading benevolent program. This year’s event runs from Sunday, July 20 through Saturday, July 26.

HOBY, a national program recognizing leadership abilities among American Sophomore students, offers a unique training opportunity for young people selected by their schools as leaders among their peers.
