Minco Chamber to host summer Farmers’ Market

The Minco Chamber of Commerce will be sponsoring the Minco Farmers’ Market every Thursday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. from June to September. The market will be located at the American Legion Hut.
Council plans meeting; two members resign

After two prior Minco City Council meetings failed to reach the five-member quorum necessary to conduct a meeting, the Council is slated to hold a Public Hearing and Special Meeting on Thursday, June 3, at 6:30 p.m.
Minco Police Department goes high tech with Mobile Cop Program

 In 2009 the police department requested permission from the city council to apply for a grant from Homeland Security and was granted permission to apply. In March of 2010 the police department was notified that we had been awarded a $12,500 grant for in-car Mobile Data Centers from the Office of Homeland Security.

Homeland Security has been supportive of all agencies, both big and small having this technology. The system gives the officers the ability to check tags, driver’s licenses, stolen items, and wanted persons from their car without having to talk on the radio with dispatch.

School Board renews coaching contracts

The Minco Board of Education voted to renew all the supplemental contracts for the Minco Public Schools athletic coaches for the 2010-2011 school year. This decision was approved during the Minco School Board meeting on May 10.
Mobile and manufactured homes back on agenda

Ordinance changes regarding manufactured and mobile homes and travel trailers were slated for discussion at Monday’s Minco City Council meeting.

Proposed Ordinance 07- 2010.ORD would amend and append “certain section of Chapter 4, Article 5, Section 4-89, to the Code of Ordinances.... for the location and placement of manufactured and mobile homes and travel trailers within the city limits of Minco.

Senior Center sales tax assist on ballot

Facing $12,000 in cuts to its operating budget, Minco Senior Citizen Center, along with the six other Grady County Senior Nutrition Centers, will turn to a vote of the people to secure its future.
